Value:
At 4.3c/piece (no minifigs but with minifig accessories) before any sales, it is a good bargain if you are trying to build up your collection of small slope, curve, and tile pieces. Very few pieces are printed, but there is a sticker sheet included that contains some clothing elements.
Build Experience:
First, the manual is a mess: it reads like a choose your own adventure on LSD, when what they really should have done is have a 50 page idea booklet of people next to their brickheadz, and then a separate smaller booklet with instructions for some of the hair and body styles shown. I feel like LEGO really needs to return to the older instruction and inspiration style booklets in general, but for this build especially, since the point is to be creative and make something new. Although if you live in Portland, the bearded hipster build might be all you need (I live in Portland, hipsters are fair game). With the hair especially, having more examples of different approaches would've been appreciated, even without detailed build instructions.
Once you toss the instructions, the build experience is much more fun as you can start to experiment with different approaches to the face and hair. Clothes feel like an afterthought unless you want to wear one of the specific styles in the instructions and there aren't really enough pieces to go wild with the clothing and the heads(z). If you attempt to change the way the body is constructed you will run into issues when making the second figure. (I tried making a floor length dress, and there just aren't enough pieces unless you want it to be white)
There are just (and I mean it) enough pieces for 2 full "people" if they are of different skin AND hair color. If they share hair or skin, then all bets are off and you'll definitely have to get creative. It can get a little frustrating near the end when you find out you don't have enough to finish the body or add legs.
Extended Playability:
It's got limited playability as far as the intended set goes, since once you make a "person" you'll likely be less than thrilled about ripping their head off and making something else. Come to think of it, that might be some good therapy (LEGO voodoo)... Anyway, the brickheadz are supposed to capitalize on the funkopop/bobblehead/lootcrate thing from 2016 and each figure will likely sit on a shelf collecting dust.
If you ignore the idea that these are build and forget, then this set can really shine. Add in a large brick collection, and then the possibilities really open up for hair, face, and clothing fun.
Tip:
If you can afford the piece, take one of the grey 90 degree stud bricks and put it in the front of the body so you can make the front of the body studs out. this will mean that you will have trouble making the second figure in the set.
Final thoughts:
As a stand alone set, it's a good way to spend an hour with your girlfriend or kids. You'll likely get more value out of it if you already have a collection of bricks, or even just order a second set for pieces (especially since kids have a high chance of looking somewhat similar). If you don't want to spring for another go brick me set, a cheaper brickheadz of the appropriate hair or skin color might work, but the value for the smaller sets diminishes. A rule of thumb I would use is that at best this set is good for 2 people with different hair and skin, 1.7 for different hair, 1.5 of similar hair and skin.
I would feel comfortable buying this set again, and will do so in a heartbeat of there is a sale.

I've finally uploaded some pictures to show what you can do with 2 full sets (plus one tan 2x3 plate stolen from set 7171)
This set, however, let's you do you, which I find a lot more interesting. I am going to admit I got them on sale for about 2/3 the list price, and it's an excellent value for parts at that price, and they make really good gifts, IMO, and I gave one to each kid and my wife at Christmas and we all made Brickheadz of ourselves and had a good time.
However, to actually do what we wanted, I still had to dip into my own collection of parts. They just didn't have the right colors for our clothes. Still, at the end of the day, there were a ton of parts left over, and if we had to, we could have lived with what was given in the boxes.
So, pretty good deal - don't think I'd pay MSRP.
I have a beard and a full head of hair. While I certainly can build a headpiece with a full head of (spiky) hair, I cannot put a beard onto that head, because both hair features utilize two specific right-angle pieces to mount them onto the head... and this set only supplies two of those pieces in each color. If you have a brown beard and blonde hair, awesome, you can build your BrickHead. If your hair & beard are the same color, you'll have to use two mounting pieces of a different color (I had to use black, which makes a weird line across the brown beard.) Bear in mind, this only applies to the spiky hair style. If you're bald or have a mohawk, etc., then you should also have no problems. It's just odd that a more "basic" look isn't doable.
A more universal problem is that there's only enough "core" head parts to build two heads, while there's far more "exterior" parts to put on those heads (more bodies, too.) Each head uses 12 grey bricks (with studs on the sides, and you're given 24 of them. If LEGO had only thrown in another 24, then you'd be able to build 4 separate figures. I would gladly have traded 24 parts from the accessories or the bodies, so that I could build two more complete figures.
Regardless, it's still a really good LEGO set. But with just a couple of small changes, it could've been AWESOME.
