Review: #40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker
Prepare to battle your family members for a chance to build this cute candy-covered walker this holiday.
While it is not the first Christmas-themed LEGO Star Wars set, this year’s #40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker is easily the most playful one yet. It’s difficult to avoid smiling when seeing a Gingerbread Darth Vader standing next to an awkwardly tall AT-AT walker made of gingerbread and bedazzled with candy decorations and fairy lights.
#40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker is $59.99 (59.99€ / £54.99 / 79.99 CAD / 99.99 AUD), contains 697 pieces and 1 minifigure. Available October 1, 2025 at LEGO.com

Inside the box, you will find the typical assortment of numbered bags, building instructions and a few loose parts.
Box Contents
- 5 numbered bags.
- 1 instruction Booklet, 195.x17.5cm, 108 pages.
- 2x 21L Flex Cable w/ Bar Holes, Bar Grips (Part 2630).
Build Process
In the First Bag, we begin by assembling the one and only figure in this set – a playful gingerbread rendition of Darth Vader. It’s hard to take him seriously when he is covered in candy decorations.
Next, we assemble the central section of the AT-AT where the legs will attach later. The exterior-facing bricks are in Gingerbread colors: 38Dark Orange with 312Medium NougatMedium Dark Flesh accents.
The interior is festooned with decorations in 21Bright RedRed, 1White, and 28Dark GreenGreen. We have a pair of packages behind the chair, flames in a small fireplace, and a pair of red and green stockings hanging on either side. A table on the right holds a cup of tea, the perfect accompaniment for unprovoked intergalactic warfare.
I do want to highlight a notable building technique on the rear end of the model. A 3×3 Tile, Round (Part 67095) is positioned carefully such that the stud notches fit within the corners of a 72° 3×4 Double Wedge Plate (Part 48183).
This only works because the 3×3 Round is attached 1/2 of a plate higher than the Wedge, which is possible because it is attached to a bracket 1×2 Bracket (Part 99781) — and small brackets are only 1/2 plate thick on the outward-facing section.
Moving to Bag 2, We build a smaller assembly which is covered with panels attached using hinges at different angles. I quickly realized this was the head of our walker, complete with candy canes on either side to send sweet destruction to try and silence the rebellion. My only critique so far is that I wish that the head could turn from side-to-side.
After two bags of whimsy, the Third Bag has more of “Narkina 5 prison complex” vibe… (Anyone want to make some tripods?) Thankfully, it took less than 10 minutes to build all four of the leg assemblies, which rely on a relatively new part: Dbl. Ø3 Rotation Disk w/ 3L Beam, Plug (Part 5652).
The gray supports are covered up nicely with gingerbread-colored plates, white frosting, and additional candy decorations. While they look good, I did find that the panels sometimes pop off when adjusting the angles of each leg.
In Bag 4, we build four identical feet. I wish they were slightly varied, but I can not complain too much about the parts and building techniques. Each foot uses four 2×1×1⅔ Curved w/ Cutout (Part 5907) which are attached sideways using SNOT techniques to create a circle. This is mostly covered by 4×4 Cake Frosting (Part 65702) to create a snowy effect. A pair of Heart Bow w/ Mini Bar (Part 11618) are added to each foot, adding even more whimsy to a typically drab vehicle.
I also enjoyed the fifth and final bag which adds a lot more holiday bling to our candy-covered Imperial war machine. It’s all about covering the two sides of the walker compartment. This is built out of three assemblies: a rectangular central panel, and two trapezoidal sections attached using hinges on either side. They all line up pretty well with the other panels, creating the familiar angled shape while also opening up easily to reveal the festive interior.
Build Time: 56 minutes (Bag 1: 13 minutes, Bag 2: 11 minutes, Bag 3: 7 minutes, Bag 4: 8 minutes, Bag 5: 17 minutes).

Even though this is a moderately priced set, a thorough analysis of the value is warranted since price-per-part isn’t the only way to assess value.

This set offers a reasonable price-per-part of 8.6 cents per part which compares favorably to most LEGO sets. Unfortunately, the price-per-gram is way worse than average at 15.8 cents. Based on this objective measure of value, this reasonably priced set with nearly 700 pieces no longer looks like a great value.

Conclusion
I smiled when I saw photos of #40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker for the first time, and it kept me smiling throughout most of the build process. It helps that the two most repetitive sections are in the middle of the build — so you both start and end on a high note.
I am confident that this will be a top seller, and will recommend it to friends this holiday season. That’s why I’m happy to give #40806 Gingerbread AT-AT Walker a 4/5 Star (Recommended) rating.
I briefly considered giving it a perfect 5/5 rating due to the sheer joy packed into this set — but that rating is reserved for sets that are flawless, offer good value, and will appeal to fans outside of the core theme. As I learned by weighing the set and calculating the price-per-gram and the price-per-minute, this set looked like a good value at first glance but is actually overpriced. The inability to turn the head from side-to-side and inability to pose the legs without parts falling off also keep it from earing the top position.
Apart from the minor imperfections and worse value than I had expected, this set is a sincere gift from LEGO designers to those Star Wars fans who don’t take themselves too seriously. I hope you are able to enjoy this really fun set, which arrives just in time for the holidays!
